Elder Abuse Assessments - Self Neglect and Hoarding
Mental capacity evaluations are often helpful when health and eldercare professionals encounter elders who present with signs of self neglect including situations of poor compliance with medical care, personal financial mismanagement, and chronic hoarding that put self neglecting elders at risk of serious harm. Self neglect is often secondary to diminished social, psychological, and/or physiological functioning and is reversible when practical interventions are put in place.
